A beautifully illustrated deep-dive into the working vessels of the North Pacific. Through full-page cross-sections and exploded views, artist and fisherman Tom Crestodina reveals the inner mechanics of ten remarkable boats — from Coast Guard rescue vessels to crab boats to science research ships — and the lives of the people who work on them.
Equal parts engineering primer and maritime portrait, the book covers radar systems, diesel engines, fire boat pumps, on-water safety gear, and much more. Detailed, whimsical, and genuinely fascinating for curious readers of all ages.
"Boys and girls — and grown-ups — intrigued by the maritime world of the North Pacific will get much pleasure and a pack of insider knowledge from Tom Crestodina's Working Boats."
— The New York Times
